CPSPR Program
Why use certified/evaluated products?
3rd party certification and evaluation provide customers with a higher level of confidence about the quality of CPS industry products. Performance quality is all about managing risk, and the use of certified or evaluated products reduces the number of unknowns for overall functionality. The CPSPR Certified/Evaluated Product program is focusing on international standards for product certification and evaluation where possible, which offer independent product testing and validation to provide customers with the highest quality, internationally recognized assurance.
What is the difference between certification and evaluation?
Although the term certification is often used to refer to any type of formal review and assessment process, there is a clear distinction between product certification and product evaluation.
Certification is a formal verification that a product or function meets a specified standard, or complies with specific minimum requirements and/or tests. Certification is typically used to verify advertised and basic operational functions and is driven by specific DJ performance requirements. All Certified CPS products have been field tested in live performance applications.
Evaluation, on the other hand, is a structured methodology for examining a product or function to confirm that claimed functionality meets established performance objectives.
What are certification/evaluation levels?
Formal certifications and evaluations provide multiple "levels" of assurance, ranging from instructional manual analysis and simple testing, to analysis of audio and in-depth testing, to live performance verification and formal testing. Products are submitted to the certification or evaluation process for a specific level.
What is CPS doing with CPSPR Certification?
CPSPR is a commercial industry certification body that offers "black box" type of testing for various types of CPS DJ industry products. Industry vendors voluntarily supply products for 3rd party CPSPR review and testing. CPSPR Certification is only awarded to products that pass the review process. CPSPR Certification is only awarded to individual products not specific developers and/or companies.
What are the challenges and risks involved in obtaining certifications and evaluations?
The challenge to achieving and maintaining certifications and evaluations comes from the fact that the process is not developer-friendly - it is slow and based on present scheduling. Further, many certifications and evaluations are accepted in only one criteria, and a similar process may need to be repeated to demonstrate the same level of assurance for another criteria. We require a full licensed version of software and working unit of hardware for consideration. Submitted items if accepted will not be returned if Certification is granted. All Certified products will be displayed during the CPS Summit. The main risk is failure to meet the minimum requirements and no granted Certification. In this cases material is returned and may be re-submitted when ready.

CPS Certification Gives an Edge
In a white paper titled Certification: Networking With the Best, George R. Conrade, wrote, "Certification is an excellent way to gain a competitive edge and give proof of your abilities, knowledge, and level of skill. To be certified in any profession, whether it's as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or as a CPS Certified Disc Jockey (CPSDJ), means you have joined a network of individuals who meet consistent, knowledge-based standards of ability, position, experience-even ethics. When you pursue certification, you're testing yourself against these standards of proficiency." Click here for details.
